On-Demand (Automated) Testing

Overview

LanguageStat offers a number of different ways to complete our assessments. These include live telephonic administration, live online video (proctored) administration, and also On-Demand testing via our automated testing platform.

It is worth noting early that test content remains the same regardless of the testing modality used, and that the scoring process is also identical. On-Demand Automated tests, just like live scheduled tests are fully evaluated by qualified human raters, and never by software or artificial intelligence technology.

The automated platform employs a virtual interviewing technology and is administered either online in the candidate’s web browser, or over the phone, depending on the type of test, and the preference of the candidate and/or requesting organization.

Unlike live testing, testing via our On-Demand automated platform does not require any prior scheduling. Therefore, it is typically much more readily available than live testing. It is often practical for candidates whose availability may fall outside of regular business hours. It is also a convenient option for candidates or organizations who do not possess a local (US or Canadian) telephone number by which to test, but who do have access to a highspeed internet connection.

While On-Demand testing does not (by default) include a live proctoring service, starting in early 2021 the platform will prompt each candidate to present a valid, nationally recognized photo ID (ex. passport, state driver’s license) via webcam, along with a sample voice recording, for added test security.

Taking the Test

After LanguageStat receives a request for an automated test, the candidate(s) will be sent testing information and a link via email. Clicking on this link will take the candidate to a site with more detailed instructions, as well as a prompt to begin their test, at the time that best suits them. No scheduling is necessary. Upon completion of the test, interpreted responses will be recorded online, and a human tester will automatically be notified that the candidate’s performance is ready to be scored.

Note: If a candidate has expected, but not received the email with the testing link, they are reminded to check in their email’s junk folder, and/or to search their email for the keyword ‘LanguageStat’.

Candidates will need to be alone and in a quiet area and are advised to have a pen and 2-3 sheets of blank paper for note taking. Candidates are not allowed to use any reference materials, such as dictionaries, translation software, or assistance from other people. The use of electronic devices or computers, even for note-taking, is also strictly prohibited.

The system will provide prompts and instructions as the candidate goes along.

Technical Considerations

It is critical the candidate have a reliable high-speed internet connection (minimum of 1 mb/upload, 1mb/download) for online testing, as well as a microphone and headset for audio (built-in computer microphones and speakers can be sufficient, but are not ideal), and a functioning webcam. The browser-based system will provide each candidate with a chance to test their audio/video setup and connection quality before beginning the test. If you are unsure whether or not your connection speeds are sufficient, please run a speed test, and share the upload and download speeds with our team (see contact below).

Each candidate is advised to have a pen and paper to take notes.
